Telnet Environment Options

Telnet Environment Options

This dialog implements the Telnet Environment Option variables based on RFC 1572.  If the host supports this option, it can be used for transmitting information between the host and the PC.

The Telnet Environment Options are necessary to take advantage of IBM's Express Logon Feature (ELF).

\

The information that Telnet Environment Option can be used for is broken into two categories:

A list of Well Known Variables as defined by RFC 1572 listed below.

A list of User defined variables.

Disable Environment Support - If you experience any problems with hosts that do not correctly support the Telnet Environment Option, you can use this checkbox to disable support for this option in the program.  QWS3720 Secure will then work like previous versions of the program.

In addition, the dialog contains controls to modify the variables.

Edit Well Known Variable - Select the variable you want to change and click the 'Edit' button.  Because the list of Well Known variables is specified in the RFC, you can not add or remove any variables from the list.  You can change or remove their values.

Add User Variable - Select to add a new User variable.  You must give your variable a unique name and specify a value for it.

Edit User Variable - Select the variable you want to change from the list, then click on the 'Edit' button.  You can change the name or the value of the variable

Remove User Variable - Deletes the selected User variable from the list.

The following Well Known Variables are defined by RFC 1572:

USER

This variable is used to transmit the user or account name that the client wishes to log into on the remote system.  By default, the program will use the current Windows user name as value for this variable.

JOB

This variable is used to transmit the job ID that the client wishes to use when logging into the remote system.

ACCT

This variable is used to transmit the account ID that the client wishes to use when logging into the remote system.

PRINTER

This variable is used to identify the default location for printer output.  Because there does not currently exist a standard way of naming a printer on a network, the format of this variable is currently undefined.  QWS3270 Secure will send any assigned value to the host if requested but will not make use of this variable in any other way.

SYSTEMTYPE

This is used to transmit the type of operating system on the system that sends this variable.

DISPLAY

This variable is used to transmit the X display location of the client.  The format for the value of the DISPLAY variable is:
<host>:<dispnum>[.<screennum>]
By default, the program will use a value of <USERNAME:0.0>
