Selecting Custom Colours

  1. Click on an area in the 256 colour rainbow picture, or on the lightest to darkest shades bar to the right of the picture. In both diagrams the top of the diagram is the lightest shade and at the bottom is the darkest shade. The rainbow colour diagram only goes to the mid tones of each colour at the bottom. To get the darker shades, click on a colour in the picture and click on a dark shade in the bar to the right of the diagram.

  2. The selected colour appears in the "Colour|Solid" field. If the last colour in the "Colour|Solid" field is white, or if the display results from clicking on an empty Custom Colour box, you may have to reset the field, as it will not change, no matter where you click on the rainbow diagram. Click on one of the Basic Colour boxes to fill it with colour. Now, it should change when you click on areas in the rainbow colour diagram.

  3. The data summaries for the colour include Hue (the number out of 256 assigned to the dominant colour), Saturation (quantity of primary colour out of 255), and luminance (the brightness of the colour). The colour summaries include the percentages of Red, Green and Blue in the colour, out of a maximum of 255. Values of Red 255, Green 255 Blue 255 generate white, and all 0s generate black. If you know the Red, Green and Blue values of the colour you want, you can enter these values to create your custom colour.

  4. If the colour in the "Colour|Solid" field is the one you want to apply to the selection in the previous dialog, click on OK. Go to step 7.

  5. If you want to save this colour for future use, Click on the "Add to Custom Colours" button to load the "Colour|Solid" field selection into one of the custom colours boxes,

  6. To implement this colour as your choice for the selection on the previous screen, click on OK. To return to the main Colour selection dialog without changes click on Cancel.

  7. You are returned to the main Colour selection screen, where your choice is displayed in the Sample window.

  8. Click on the Apply button to accept this colour, and go on selecting more colours.

  9. If you want to return to the 3279 default colour, click on default.

  10. If you want to reset all your choices to the 3279 default colours, click on the "Reset All" button.

  11. Click OK on the bottom of the main dialog to accept all colour changes that have been made, whether applied or not, and exit the colour dialog.
