Starting QWS3270 Secure


To start QWS3270 Secure double click the icon that was placed on your desktop by the installation program or click Start, then Programs, select the QWS3270 Secure folder, and click the program icon. When the application starts you will see the Jolly Giant Software splash screen. This will disappear automatically after a few seconds or when you click on it with your mouse.

The first step in making QWS3270 Secure work for you is setting the program parameters to your preferences. We hope this help file will make that experience as quick and pleasant as possible. To quickly set up a session A communications term that describes a live interactive connection between two network nodes, which in the case of 3270 emulation is the connection between the PC and the 3270 host. If this is a new installation and you have never before run QWS3270 Secure before, you will see a 'New Session Wizard'.  This wizard will help you to quickly create your first session.  In just a few easy steps you will be connecting to your host.  The Wizard will only be invoked automatically if there are no sessions defined.  If you would like to use it to create new sessions later, you can start the New Session Wizard from the QWS3270 menu.

If this is not the first time the application has been executed on this PC, the following events may or may not happen depending on how the application parameters were set in Application Settings:

  • The Jolly Giant Software splash screen will appear (unless the option to suppress the splash screen is checked in Application Settings).

  • Start-up may automatically connect to the default (see also Default Session) host if this option was selected in Application Settings.

  • A Connect window will appear with the last session to which a connection was made pre-selected if this option has been checked in the Application Settings. From this window you can click the ‘Connect’ button to be connected with this host.
